Identifying outside of the heteronormative may cause seemingly endless challenges, such as adjusting to changes, working through the “coming out”/disclosure process, navigating self/family/societal acceptance, healing from traumas, and so much more. These unique stressors, at any level, can be the underlying causes for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and other difficulties.
